Antibodies are defense molecules found in the blood and lymph of all vertebrates. They bind foreign molecules with high specificity and affinity. This interaction makes antibodies an indispensable tool in research. Antibody molecules are secreted as globular proteins, which bind foreign molecules with high specificity and affinity. The antibody fragment (Fab), has the antigen binding site called the paratope, the lower part of the antibody consists of the crystallizable fragment (Fc), which binds to specific receptors to communicate with other components of the immune system (Fig. 1).
